Horror Block Horrors

As a horror fan I had to give Horror Block a try. I ordered 4 boxes, over a period of 8 months, just to see if they’re really worth it.
While the blocks I ordered in late 2016 were cool, it seems there was a downfall in the latest blocks I got, and by reading the comments on their Facebook page, it seems a lot of their subscribers feel the same way.
While giving this review, I can’t ignore the recent fiasco, in which people were receiving their blocks one month late, some received T-shirts from previous blocks and others haven’t received a T-shirt at all.

With that in mind, here’s what I got in this year’s May block:
Frog Brothers T-shirt – The Lost Boys T-shirt. I’m not a fan of minimalism, but it’s still a nice shirt. Probably the best thing in this block.

Here’s a T-shirt from May 2016 block. Can you see the difference?

Blood bag freezer pack – An original way to keep your food cold.

Women with guts & Penny Dreadful comic – I haven’t had the chance to read it yet so I can’t say if it’s good or bad, but I’ll always love to have a comic or a book.

A free digital download of 2 books – That’s nice, bot not for everyone, you must have a Kindle or some other e-reader in order to enjoy it. Personally, I can’t read a book on a tablet or a PC, I find it very uncomfortable. I can however print the 520 pages of both books, but it’s not like having a real book.

Carrie umbrella – Something I really didn’t expect to find in a horror block, not sure what to make of it.
Nightmare on Elm Street poster – Sorry, maybe it’s because I’m an artist myself, but this poster is not something I would hang on my wall. You can’t capture the essence of horror or action movies with minimalist posters.
There are lots of great horror artists out there, why settle for a beginner?

Bottom line – It seems like Horror Block is all out of good materials: No Crystal Lake hats, no Funko POP vinyl figures and no creative art. For now, I feel I can find better things on eBay. I do hope Horror Block will return to bringing cool things, just like they used to not so long ago.

Post update: Horror Block parent company Nerd Block has filed for bankruptcy on August 19. I guess that means Horror Block is no more.
